Soldier Settlement in Victoria

Soldier Settlement in Victoria

By Kirstin Nicholson - the Family Tree Detective

Here’s a map of Victoria like you haven’t seen it before. Each of these black markers represents a soldier settlement location. After WWI the state governments provided a way to assist returning soldiers with work and the Victorian Soldier Settlements Scheme was born. You can find this feature at the Public Records Office of Victoria (PROV) website where you search by soldier name or by location. Once located, you can then click through to the full digitised record of the land settlement agreement. Go to http://soldiersettlement.prov.vic.gov.au to discover your soldier settler.
